**IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS ANNOUNCEMENT:**
**This Summer Internship opportunity will start no sooner than May, 2018.**
Please note that if you are a Spring 2018 graduate, you will not be eligible for this Internship opportunity unless you are enrolled at a qualifying educational institution seeking an additional degree (diploma, Certificate, degree program, etc.) or an advanced degree. You also must submit proof of acceptance along with your current transcripts for consideration.
Upon successful completion of the Pathways Internship Program and completion of their academic degree or Certificate program, individuals may be non-competitively converted to a Term position or permanent position in the Competitive Service.
This position is located in Barrigada, Guam. Applicants must be available to work there for the duration of the appointment.
**Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)** for Guam is 13.01% and is not federally taxed. The COLA is not reflected in the locality salary shown in this vacancy announcement.
Post Differential may be authorized for Guam for hires outside of the local area. You may be entitled to 20% post differential allowance in addition to the salary. Post differentials are not exempt from Federal income taxes.
NOAA is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented students who are pursuing a degree or certificate program in an accredited educational institution for our Intern Program. The NOAA Pathways Internship Program targets students accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a degree-seeking or Certificate program at least on a half-time basis. **(Applicants who do not meet the definition of student by the closing date of the announcement will not be considered).**
This vacancy may be used to fill other Student Trainee (Meteorology), GS-1399-03 positions throughout NOAA. The position must be alike (e.g. within the same geographic locations, same grade/band and requires the same qualifications as indicated in this vacancy announcement).
***Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid**. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
*A one year trial period may be required.
*This position is not in the bargaining unit.

### Responsibilities
You will receive on-the-job and formal training to provide you with experience in the operation meteorological duties. You will become familiar with National Weather Service programs, policies, and procedures; and you will have an opportunity to perform progressively more responsible assignments as experience is gained. You will also receive instructions and gain practical experience in interpreting radar echoes and satellite imagery in terms of associated meteorological conditions. You will have the opportunity to participate in scientific research and develop procedures to transfer research to operations.

**ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:**

* If selected, must sign a Pathways Programs Internship Program Agreement after being appointed. Official transcripts will be required before you can report to duty.
**QUALIFICIATION REQUIREMENTS:**
Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcement are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. The ideal candidate for this internship is a degree seeking student who is pursuing at least bachelor's degree with a major in meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science. **To qualify at the GS-03 level:**
Successful completion of 1 year of post-high school study that included at least one course in meteorology, mathematics, engineering or physical science.

Six months of general experience defined as any type of work that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.
**OR**
Equivalent combinations or education and experience.
